Who is Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia?
YAYASAN FOOD BANK MALAYSIA (YFBM) was established on 7 January 2019 as a Non-Profit @ Non-Government Organization (NGO) that actively work on social responsibility programs. We are registered under the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister department under the Act of Trustee (Incorporation) 1952 [Act 258].
We aim to create “zero hunger”
communities throughout Malaysia by collaborating with our partners and our esteemed donors by using donor funds to acquire necessities that are necessary to our beneficiaries
and also by rescuing surplus
food from the manufacturer, wholesalers, hypermarkets, and the hotel industry; sort and re-distribute it to an identified B40 communities through our strategic partners to reduce.
The main objective of YFBM is to collaborate with our partners to aim for a “zero hunger” and “zero waste” community through the halal food supply in Malaysia, by using donor’s funds to purchase/acquired food supplies and rescuing surplus food from businesses who having food as their main or secondary output. Collaborating with our strategic NGOs, we re-distribute them to targeted underprivileged communities and other unfortunate beneficiaries before the surplus food goes to waste ending up in the landfill.
OBJECTIVE
- Help the underpriviledged with access to food supplies to reduce cost of living.
- Collaborate with non-governmental organizations (NGO) and related industrial players to create and enhance surplus food management system.
- To coordinate, plan and carry out the collection of surplus food nationwide.
MISSION
- Together we aim for “Zero Hunger” communities by providing food supply and basic necessities.
- Aim “Zero Waste” nation by rescuing surplus food from the food industry players, and re-distributing them back to B40 communities in Malaysia.
VISION
- Become the leader of Food Banking in Malaysia by 2030.
HOW FOOD BANKING WORKS?
FOOD DONORS PROTECTION ACT 2020
The Food Donors Protection Act have been gazetted on 10 February 2020 which gives protection to food donors from civil liability.
PROTECTION OF FOOD DONORS
A food donor shall not be liable for any civil liability against any personal injury, or illness suffered by any person or the death of any such person resulting from consumption of food donated or distributed by food donors unless it can be proved that:
- Personal injury, illness or death caused by negligence or willful misconduct by food donors
- The food donor does not comply with any requirement in relation to food safety and hygiene under any written law before donating or distributing the food
- The food is not safe to be eaten at the time the food is donated or distributed to any person
- Donations and distribution of food are not made of good faith.
TAX EXEMPTION
Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia is Tax-Exempted under
Sub-Section 44 (6) of Income Tax Act 1967
